We start our walk still in daylight, so we can explore the most beautiful sights still in the light and follow the setting sun. The sunset and the unique views make our walk special. When the sun has disappeared behind the horizon and the lights of Tihany illuminate, we take a torch in our hands and continue our tour. In front of us the endless Balaton, behind us the lights of the village and the tour guide is storytelling... Amazing, isn't it?

Lavender using for perfume, cosmetics and more not only grows in Provence, one of the most famous region of France. This beautiful medicinal herb is also found in Hungary, already for centuries. In the middle age mainly monks were who engaged in cultivation, growing, planting and caring lavender. You could find it in almost all herb garden of the monasteries, for example in those of the Hungarian Benedictine Order. But they used it only for their own needs.

The first huge lavender fields in Hungary for industrial purposes were planted in the 20th century just here in Tihany in the 1920th. In a short time the lavender oils extracted here even surpass the French masters in quality. But how and why? How did the Tihany lavender become world-famous? We can tell You the whole "fragrant" story!

You should know, that on this tour You will need all of Your senses: we will smell, we will taste, we will feel and we will learn a lot about the history and present of Tihany lavender. Ágnes Torma

As a native of Tihany, I always thought I already knew everything in my homeland. This attitude changed abruptly when I started my education as a tour guide at the Lake Balaton. I began to look at my home with different eyes. Until today, I always discover something new, a small detail or an interesting fact about Tihany.

So many sights exist beyond the known tourist routes and my goal is to show them to as many people as I can. This is not so easy now because I no longer live in Tihany. My main job called me abroad. But I spend as much time as I can on the peninsula. It is a special joy and honor when I have the opportunity to accompany visitors to Tihany and its surroundings as a tour guide.
